3D desktops have been around a while, and the one below is interesting but I just cannot see myself going for it. Really, can you see yourself doing serious work on it as a developer? But for other people, it might work. Maybe…
Pay particular attention to the video after 12 seconds and the guys $$$ ring. Nice touch!

Does anyone know how to embed these youtube’s in wordpress? It can be done but the stuff on the net is really poorly structured and totally random…

Agreed, other than a purely research usage I cannot really see much people using it. I mean, what’s the target? it’s not the power user cause you cannto beat the folder structure that you can create on a desktop or anythere in that matter with this. And it’s not a casual computer user as they can usually barely create a shortcut on a desktop, so don’t even think about them using mouse gestures like that. for the sake of usability the files don’t even have names on it (dson’t try to add it or itr will become one huge mess)! for ti to be mariginally usable it would require a plugin to create a thumbnail for every single file type to be able to see what’s inside (but then you loose the incredibly clear distinction between the file types that you gain with icons)
I can however think of it having an appliance if made a bit more structured - it would make for a great photo manager as seen on the movie. Now if the “desktop” had drawers and/or shelfs of some kind, - I can see myself using it for that purpose. I could totally picture Google Picassa turning into something like that.

Come on tdi, that’s just pretty! also it limits me to only 5 extra desktops (assuming we can move the cube up and down). Anything more than a cube and my head will start spinning…but it is impressive! Practical, hmmm…i need more ammunition.

I did not say it was practical
I am not gnome/novell lover. I like simplicity on my desktop.
