Enough is enough, is ENOUGH! Windows Explorer has hung my damned machine again for the most mundane of things. Time to move on and start listening to my work colleagues love of Total Commander. After a simple install, i’m up and running. After the initial shock of seeing a Window 3.1 user interface on my desktop again, total commander is fierce! It does everything you want and more. Windows explorer rest in peace, time to get some licenses sprinkled around the office…

I’ve seen lot’s of pepole actually using it, I however find FAR much less confusing and much more elegant solution.

That’s what I use. You can find pretty much plugins to anything for it, from traversing registry and xml files to uninstalling applications and windows and process management. the editor supports the colorer plugin, based pretty much on the same code that is used with Eclipse.
Granted, at the beginning it may feel a bit nerdy, but boy… it this thing a swiss knife or what?!

Mhh, do you actually have to enable public comments on articles here?
I’ve posted a comment on this article and it does not seem to be showing up.

hmm, Sorry about that Cleve, well it looks like it’s going through after all. So let me go about it again.
The app that I am actually using for that is FAR manager, it’s like a swiss knife and although it may look a bit nerdy at a start with a proper plugin setup it’s priceless!
You can get plugins from pretty much anything, varying from the very plugin database browser, registry traversing and editing just like a deirectory tree, xmls editing and traversing (the very same way) all the geeky stuff up to app uninstalling and process management.
The built in text editor supports the colorer plugin based on on the same code base that’s in Eclipse.
Basically if you won’t get thrown off and repulsed at the very first try you may actually get pretty addicted to it.
It’s a love it or hate it tool

Both of them actually (as indicated on Wikipedia) just like gazillion other commanders out there including Total Commander (which is just the same idea just implemented in GUI), are rip-offs from Norton commander:
